More July Moths

All quiet on the birding front in July but moth numbers are steadily increasing as are the number of different species and new ones coming in to the garden.
A few of the more decorative ones are attached below.
First off is "Bright Line Brown Eye" which is a bit of a Ronseal description - say what you see.
As always, if you want to read a bit more about the species, click on the name of the moth which is underneath each of the pictures.

Bright Line Brown Eye

Dotted Clay

Swallow Prominent

This is a beautiful moth, known as a swallow tailed moth,

Magpie

This is quite a worn and knackered looking one but it is a burnished brass - spectacular colours.

Fairly common but an absolute beauty - Angle Shades

Beautifully and mysteriously known as "True Lover's Knot" - this was the first one trapped in the garden

Another first - "Pebble Hook Tip" - there is quite a variation in the species across the UK - check the link below the pic for more

A real favourite is the "Garden Tiger", sadly getting harder to see these days

A two hour stroll with the usual birds including 12 puffin, tree sparrow (1st one I've seen here), linnet, yellowhammer and a passing great skua that descended on to the sea below to feed on a dead kittiwake.
